Our Story

Celtic soul. Modern storytelling. Old stories given a new voice.
Shepherd's Pipes is an independent music project inspired by the songs, stories, history, folklore, and landscapes of Scotland, Ireland, and the wider Celtic world.
Our music moves between traditional ballads and poetry, original songs rooted in history and legend, and contemporary stories told through a Celtic lens. Robert Burns may share the catalog with battlefield ghosts, doomed lovers, kelpies, crowded pubs, Belfast rain, and the occasional song that simply refuses to stay in the eighteenth century.
The Music
At the center of Shepherd's Pipes is storytelling.
Some songs begin with centuries-old words.
Others begin with a historical event, a legend, a place, or an entirely original idea. Traditional instruments and Celtic influences mingle with modern arrangements and cinematic production, because we aren't interested in simply recreating the past. We want to tell its stories in ways that still connect with people today.
That means the catalog can move from a Burns poem to a Scottish battlefield, from a ceilidh to a supernatural folk tale, and from traditional Celtic sounds to something decidedly more contemporary.
Yes, We Use AI
We believe in being transparent about how the project is made.
Shepherd's Pipes uses artificial intelligence as part of its creative and production process. The vocals and instrumentation are generated with AI (via Suno). AI-assisted tools are also used in artwork, animation, and video creation.
But the creative direction doesn't come from a machine.
The concepts, song selections, historical research, lyrics and adaptations, arrangements, revisions, visual storytelling, and final editorial decisions are guided by people. AI is part of the toolkit we use to turn those ideas into finished music and visual stories.
We don't present Shepherd's Pipes as something it isn't. It is a modern creative project using new technology to explore some very old traditions.
And, in a way, that feels appropriate. Folk music has never stood still. Songs have always been borrowed, rewritten, rearranged, passed from one voice to another, and reshaped for a new generation.
We're simply doing that with some tools Robert Burns never had.
None of that makes it fast. Every song here can take dozens of hours...research, drafts, revisions, hundreds of AI generations kept or discarded, scenes rebuilt when they don't fit the story, all before it's ready to release.
We hope that shows.
The Story Continues
Shepherd's Pipes exists because these stories are worth telling again.
Some are hundreds of years old.
Some happened yesterday.
Some never happened at all.
Pull up a chair.
There's always another story by the fire.
